Snow Sculpture

Thank you for casting your vote! Our Peoples Choice Award Snow Sculpture 2022 competition is now closed.

A big thank you to all the snow sculptors for their hard work and creativity during our 2022 Snow Day event. As well as a big thank you to our community for coming down to Marina Park to check out the fabulous sculptures.

Congratulations to our winner Henrietta Hermit Crab! Sculpted by Chad Kirvan & Mary Jane MacDonald.

Sculpture Description: Recently, it seems like we’ve all been spending a little too much time in our shells. Has that made some people a bit crabby? We think it has and we’ve decided to do something about it. We’d like to use our sculpture to lighten the mood through a comical self-reflection in crustaceous form. Her name is Henrietta Hermit Crab. She’s a warm-hearted, cold-blooded beauty who’s been working on herself and is ready to get back out there.

Background

SnowDay on the Waterfront was held on family day weekend. However, due to ongoing pandemic impacts, the usual SnowDay event was modified for 2022. Instead, the City offered small-scale winter activities Feb. 19 – Feb. 20. Learn more about the schedule of activities at www.thunderbay.ca/snowday

This year we presented a People's Choice Award for the overall favourite snow sculpture. The snow sculpture showcase was available Feb. 21 - Feb. 27 at Marina Park.

The snow sculpture competition had an open theme allowing the six teams of artists to design and carve a variety of fun, family-friendly concepts.
