City Council is looking for your feedback to assist in its decision making during the review of the proposed 2022 City Budget. Read the proposed budgets and summary information below and get involved.

Provide your feedback. All feedback will be shared with City Council for their consideration on a weekly basis during the budget deliberations. The budget is expected to be approved on Feb. 7, 2022. For more details visit www.thunderbay.ca/budget

Proposed Budget Overview:

The following graph shows the breakdown of how $1,000 in municipal tax levy would be spent on the various services and expenditures based on the proposed 2022 budget. (View this graph as a plain text document)

How to Get Involved:

  • Complete the online 2022 proposed budget survey, available until Feb. 3, 2022
  • Or, complete the Budget Community Handbook which can be downloaded or picked up from City Hall by appointment (call: 625-2230).
  • Make a deputation to City Council on Jan. 13 or Feb. 3, 2022. Both meetings will start at 6:30 pm and will be virtual via MS Teams

Making a deputation:

There are four options for providing a deputation: by videoconference, by telephone, through the City Hall lobby kiosk, or by sending a letter to Council. All deputations must be scheduled in advance, walk-in deputations will not be permitted. Deputation requests can be made by emailing OfficeoftheCityClerk@thunderbay.ca or by completing the online Speak Before Council form.

  • For Jan. 13 deputations, requests must be received no later than noon on Jan. 11.
  • For Feb. 3 deputations, requests must be received no later than noon on Feb. 1.

2022 Pre-Budget Consultations:

A Pre-Budget survey was made available to residents in June 2021, both online as well as in paper copy through the Source and branches of the Thunder Bay Public Library. Thank you to all citizens who provided feedback. Read the below summary report to hear what residents had to say. The full verbatim citizen comments were also shared directly with City Council.

A 2022 Pre-Budget Virtual Town Hall was also held on June 22, 2021. Councillor Mark Bentz, Chair of Administrative Services, City Manager Norm Gale, and Linda Evans - General Manager Corporate Services & Long-Term Care & City Treasurer along with representatives from City departments presented information about the upcoming budget and responded to citizen questions.
