The City of Thunder Bay is currently working on a project to formally designate our currently non-designated listed properties. We have engaged Egis Group to assist with researching and evaluating the heritage buildings.
Heritage properties, whether publicly or privately owned, are a community asset. They help to conserve Thunder Bay's history and the characteristics of our communities.
The Ontario Heritage Act gives the City tools to allow us to protect these properties. Provincial, regional, and municipal plans and policies passed under the Ontario Planning Act support the City’s efforts to conserve cultural heritage resources.
The Municipal Register is the City’s official list of regulated heritage properties and is an essential tool in the City’s heritage conservation toolkit.
