Current Status:
After public feedback was gathered via the idea boards and online survey, in early 2020 necessary measures for COVID-19 delayed plans to complete the design and begin construction of the new Adventure Playground.
Removal of the old play area structures began in summer 2020, and construction of the new Adventure Playground is set to take place in 2021, with a view to completing the work by October.
Background:
Unfortunately, the popular wooden structures in the Centennial Park playground, that have sparked the imagination of generations of kids, had become old and unsafe.
It was recognized that the unique setting of this playground adjacent to the forest, farm and chalet provides many opportunities to explore in the redesign.
In summer/fall 2019, The City of Thunder Bay’s Parks & Open Spaces Section sought the public's feedback to help shape the redesign of the playground at Centennial Park. A online survey was made available to the public, along with an idea board at the site. Thank you for the many detailed responses!
