Water System Master Plan
Project Overview
The City of Thunder Bay is updating its Water System Master Plan (WSMP) to ensure safe and reliable drinking water for current and future residents. This study follows the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) process and will plan for short-term (5-year), mid-term (10-15 years), and long-term (20-year) water service improvements.
We’ve officially begun the Water System Master Plan Study. This study will help the City of Thunder Bay plan future upgrades to our water treatment and distribution systems over the next 5, 10, and 20 years. You can read the full Notice of Study Commencement to learn more about the study and how you can get involved.
The WSMP will:
- Assess the existing water treatment and distribution system.
- Identify areas for improvement and future expansion.
- Protect natural heritage features and wetlands.
- Develop a roadmap for investment to support Thunder Bay’s growth.
