Chapples Multi-Use Indoor Turf Facility

Stantec Architecture has been retained by the City of Thunder Bay to advance the design of the Indoor Turf Facility to a Tender Ready stage. At this time, we are looking for additional comments and input from the potential User Groups for the facility, in advance of the scheduled User Group meeting (See key dates).

About the proposed facility
Proposed uses for the facility include, but are not limited to, soccer, walking, ultimate, football, baseball, drone competitions, cricket, lacrosse, trade shows, large community events/cultural gatherings, and a potential emergency evacuation centre.

At this time, the facility includes the following components:

  • One full-size indoor turf field 310’ x 190’ with a minimum 40’ clear height (dividable into 4- 150’ x 90’ quarter fields)
  • Automatic quarter pitch field separation curtains
  • Playing field accessories
  • Two lane walking track with locker area for walkers
  • Sixteen change rooms and referee changing areas
  • Seating for up to 900 with capacity for standing room
  • Food/beverage amenities, mezzanine overlooking indoor turf facilities on upper level
  • Washrooms located throughout
  • Tournament hosting / Administrative office space for staff and community groups
  • Storage & service spaces
  • Full load backup generator

We invite commentary from all stakeholders in advance of the User Group gathering and following the meeting, prior to the public open house in March.
