EarthCare Thunder Bay is a partnership between the City of Thunder Bay and the community to work together on issues of community sustainability, climate adaptation, and greenhouse gas reduction. EarthCare's mission is to lead the community in securing the environmental health of our region, and thereby improve the social, cultural, and economic well-being of future generations.

The time has come to renew our guiding document, the EarthCare Sustainability Plan. To ensure that the Plan addresses the priorities and concerns of the public, EarthCare is seeking public input.

Project Timeline

Phase One
In Phase One of the Sustainability Plan renewal you are invited to share your opinions and perspectives regarding environmental sustainability in Thunder Bay through the online survey.

Phase Two
In Phase Two of the Sustainability Plan renewal you will be invited to participate in workshops to engage, collaborate, and provide input into specific areas of the Plan.

Phase Three
In Phase Three of the Sustainability Plan renewal you will be invited to read the draft plan and provide feedback.

Background

Since 2014, EarthCare has made steady progress on the implementation of the EarthCare Sustainability Plan 2014 – 2020. A report outlining major highlights since 2014 was presented to City Council in July 2021 and can be found here: EarthCare Annual Reports

Since the adoption of the first Community Environmental Action Plan (CEAP) in 2008, EarthCare (previously EarthWise) has provided an interface for the public to work with the municipality to achieve environmental goals, to educate each other on best practices and new ideas, and to mutually benefit from the outcomes.

EarthCare is guided by three strategic documents: The EarthCare Sustainability Plan (2014 – 2020) and the Climate Adaptation Strategy (2015) and the new Net-Zero Strategy (2021). The implementation of these Plans will help Thunder Bay to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, become more climate-resilient, and create a more sustainable city. EarthCare will continue to represent the community by bridging community needs and wants with long-term planning of municipal investments that are resilient, evidence-based, and achieve multiple co-benefits.
